SINOPSIS

Muchos creen que la profecía del Libro de la Revelación, también conocido
como Apocalipsis, plantea el mapa de un terrible futuro… o presenta fragmentos
de la historia que se han hecho realidad en nuestra época.
Las señales, proclaman, están a nuestro alrededor en forma de ataques
terroristas, fenómenos meteorológicos extremos… la lista continúa.
El pasaje apunta en concreto a la llegada del Anticristo, que está marcado
con la secuencia numérica "666": la marca de la Bestia.
Robert Thorn ignora por completo estas oscuras profecías. Thorn, un diplomático
americano de alto rango, tiene otras cosas en mente. Su mujer, Kathryn,
ha sufrido un penoso alumbramiento y todavía no sabe que su hijo recién
nacido ha muerto. El sacerdote del hospital, el Padre Spiletto, se presenta a
Thorn con otro niño que ha nacido esa misma noche y cuya madre ha fallecido
en el parto. El cura apremia a Thorn para que acepte al chico como si fuera suyo;
Kathryn nunca sabrá la verdad, y su hijo, al que pondrán por nombre Damien,
crecerá como si fuera de ellos. Kathryn acepta al hijo como propio, volcándose
en él como cualquier madre; Thorn, parece ser, ha tomado la decisión correcta.
Pero ciertos acontecimientos, que aparentemente giran en torno a Damien,
el cual ahora ya cuenta con cinco años de edad, son profundamente perturbadores.
Los angustiantes incidentes se multiplican, lo que indica que algo malo,
tremendamente malo, pasa con Damien. La profecía está clara, los signos no dejan
lugar a dudas: ha llegado la hora del Armagedón.
